A silver Luckenbooth of a single heart with chevron and crown on top, circa 1850. A Luckenbooth is an old Scots word for the locked booths that were situated on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh going back to the 15th century. The Luckenbooth brooch is traditionally a Scottish love token. It is a heart to represent true love, with a crown representing loyalty. It is normally given by a loved one to be worn over their heart, or a nursing mother to aid her milk flow or on the clothing of a baby to ward off evil spirits. SOLD
