Job Title: Antique Shop Assistant – Iain Marr Antiques (Est. 1975)

Location: 2 Aird House, High Street, Beauly, Inverness-shire.  IV4 7BS

Job Type: Part-Time – 3-4 days per week

Compensation: Real Living Wage (£12.60 per hour)

Start Date: Immediate Start

About Us: Now in our 50th year, Iain Marr Antiques is a long established, family-run business renowned for our exceptional collection of fine antiques, provincial silver, porcelain, ceramics, and art. We are the most northerly member of LAPADA (Association of Art and Antique Dealers).  Over the decades, we’ve built a reputation for trust, quality, and discretion. Our shop is more than a business; it’s a legacy, and we pride ourselves on providing a personal and professional service to everyone who enters.

Position Summary: We are looking for a reliable, personable, and discreet individual to join our close-knit team. This role involves both customer-facing shop duties and behind-the-scenes support, including managing online listings and inventory. The ideal candidate will value integrity and professionalism as much as they do aesthetics and history.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and assist customers with warmth and professionalism
  • Gain knowledge and appreciation of antiques, helping to enhance the customer experience
  • Handle sales transactions and operate the card reader
  • Photograph, list, and manage items for online business
  • Track and update inventory both in-store and online
  • Maintain a clean, inviting, and well-organised shop environment
  • Respect and uphold strict client confidentiality at all times
  • Occasionally assist with visiting clients, sourcing antiques, delivering antiques, attending antique fairs, and accompanying on buying calls

Person specifications:

Essential:

  • Passionate about antiques, art and design and interested in the history of objects
  • Friendly manner with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage websites and digital inventory
  • Strong sense of discretion and professionalism
  • Organised and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable using a camera and digital tools
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items as needed

Desirable:

  • Confidence using online tools for marketing, inventory, and web design
  • Visual merchandising or display styling experience
  • Experience in retail, antiques, or online sales is an asset
